0572. Edwin Eugene Meader (1909  –     )

Edwin Eugene Meader, son of Robert Eugene Meader (1871-1952) [0455] and Jennie E. Gibson (1869-1929), was born September 21, 1909 in Benton Harbor, MI. He earned degrees from the University of Michigan (A.B., 1933) and Wayne State University (M.A., 1957). He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the Military Intelligence Service and the Office of Strategic Services. He was employed by the Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company, 1935-51. He served with the Central Intelligence Agency from 1951 to 1968. From 1964 to 1966 he was Instructor in Geography at Wayne State University. After 1970 he was Adjunct Associate Professor of Geography (Middle East) at Western Michigan University.

He married:

1) Bertha Margaret Smith on December 5, 1933 in San Francisco. She was the daughter of Lemuel Fish Smith and Bertha Onderdonck, born July 27, 1911 and died February 15, 1964.

2) Rachel Mary Upjohn Light at Ann Arbor, Michigan March 12, 1965. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan April 15, 1916 the daughter of William Harold Upjohn and Grace Genevieve Bray. Their home (his since 1941) was in Richland Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.
